Any starters for men’s grooming?

Am in my mid-40s this year. After years of looking after children and family, I find myself too unpleasant to look at even in the mirror.

Decide to make myself look more presentable. Any suggestions on which aspects to start? I don’t earn much, so maybe at costs not exceeding $100 a month?

Thank you very much.

Any specific shops to recommend? Have been going to $10 quick cuts but usually end up looking like a nerd.

Get some ideas off the internet. Is your face chubby? I opt for fadeaway cut to create illusion that my face looks slimmer. Mine's the chubby face type.

Usually after a cut it looks weird because you aren't used to it and you'd look best after a week or so.

I re-started my workout routine few months back. 1 day HIIT (High Intensity Interval Run) run, 2 days relax jogging and daily abs exercise. You can find all sorts of fitness regime on youtube. Thats the best place to start. But dont go too advanced, else you'd be de-motivated to continue.

After 2 months, i didn't really lose weight but my stomach sort of flattened a bit and gained some lean muscles. Felt good and confident.

By the way, I am in same age bracket as you.

Re: Any starters for men’s grooming?

Thanks all bros. Yes my face is chubby and oily, and when coupled with messy and oily hair, it’s really an eye sore. What’s the rough price point for the so-called fade out haircut?

Do any bros go for facial, hair removal, etc too? Roughly what are the reasonable price range?

Likely not considering getting any new clothes for the time being coz I’m about XL to XXL size now. Don’t know whether will I be permanently this size.

Thanks in advance.

Haha, I don’t have things to hide, so I’m not concerned of what she may think. Hopefully that will keep her on her toes instead! :-D

Thank you very much.

One can relate to this feeling. Jaded much and nothing pleasing to the eyes when you look into the mirror.
Grooming oneself requires more than just a hundred dollars every month for a lady who takes great care of herself to look pretty and neat.
Don on a new hairstyle, have a new hair colour. Get yourself some new shirts and jeans.
Go to a reputable and well known hair Salon. Certainly takes more than $100 for your first time. Maintaining it should take lesser after it.
Head to a gym. Swim.
Never settle for less. Anyone who ask you to settle for less dont deserve you. Always remember.

I wish to share my real experience.

My weight ballooned during Singapore's CB.

However I weighed myself today and my weight now is the lightest that I have been for many years.

My result is gotten through a combination of hard work and changing my eating habits (I wouldn't call it dieting, I will elaborate below).

Basically I have walked more than 10000 steps per day for the past 2 months. Some days I get more than 20000 steps.

I work out with light weights very occasionally (squats, presses, deadlifts). I don't a need gym. However I have access to some weights.

I switched to a mostly plant-based diet. I don't miss meat. I don't feel hungry.

Suggestions on which aspects to start. I suggest work on your fitness first. Find an activity which you like and which you can do everyday. Start small but be consistent.

Theres practically no signs of aging these days. With high technology around us.
Only the poor become old match with age.
Anyone else who's not lazy and spend money on themselves for basic grooming will not age badly but gracefully.

The above is great advise!

No need to run off to the gym and start doing HIT. All that is bullshit. First thing that you need to understand if you want to lose weight is calories in calories out.

What does that mean, well firstly if you consume more food/calories than what you use/burn in a day you will pick up weight. It is simple as that. So my advise will be to start restricting your calories that you take in on a daily bases. No need to starve your self but start with a 300 calorie deficit.

The next thing you can do is walk the more you walk the more calories you will burn, all of this is FOC it just requires you to want it and self motivation. If you really want to you can also do body weight squats, pushups etc.

This is true, I am now witnessing my close friend who used to mock people taking care of themselves transform into a new age men.

After his wife left him, he started going for facial, pus a mask on his skin before he goes to sleeps and grooming his hair in salons.

He is looking great now and feels so positive. Not to mention having a lot of company from the opposite sex.

And he is not handsome or which so ever, he is not ugly too.

We are the same age and now when we stand together, people normally will guess that he is younger than me.

Maybe I should also start...

Just that he looks radiant and somewhat become attractive.
